Sorry we will be long gone, a trail of debris in our wake.... And we wont be back for a while. WA is a real culture shock - did you know that if you buy a Mr Whippy over here the actually fill the cone with it? They have more sand too, enough sand to fill an olympic sized sandpit for everyone in the country to play in. They don't like eastern staters either, they come here and take all the jobs so the overseas workers can't get jobs and work for peanuts.... AND they have these funny plastic bag dispensers everywhere to put dog poo in, must be a real shortage of canine crap in WA..... Their politicians are the same though, full of hubris and spin.... Yep a bit of a culture shock....

We arrive in Perth on the 27th Aug. Staying at the Swan Valley van park in West Swan. Its adjacent to the chocolate factory being a very good rationale for this choice.

Ok, that will be fine, we need a bit of notice for anyone else who might want to come along to Whiteman Park so let us know a day/date after your actual arrival day here so we can spread the word. aww

And stop perving on those stromalites doing their thing ! wink biggrin

Please note the days & times for the tram rides on this link;  http://www.whitemanpark.com.au/attractions/tram-rides.aspx

Bus ride days/times http://www.whitemanpark.com.au/attractions/whiteman-explorer.aspx

And train rides days/time http://www.whitemanpark.com.au/attractions/train-rides.aspx

Entry to the park is free, but wildlife zoo, car museum, etc have entry fees.  Revolutions (near the railway station)

is the cheapest, entry by donation http://www.whitemanpark.com.au/attractions/revolutions-transport-museum.aspx

Click on legends at the side of one of the links shown above for other entry fees, day/times etc.

You will need to pick a day when most things are operating and note times (should be able to get timetables and maps on the day at the visitor centre in the park itself, or find and download off one the links above.

I think the micro nations are all overseas at the moment unless I read it wrong.

I think a micro nation in the middle of the Simpson Desert would be good for some!

Hope he isn't out when you visit, he goes to town (Northampton) now and then.

See his royal Rolls Royce under his carport.....

As CEO of the LVET I will seek an audience with HRH Prince Leonard. He is an obviously eccentric but very clever man, should be an interesting melding of eccentric minds....... I was not aware that since he succeeded from the nation that there are now a whole raft of "Micro Nations" within our shores and I'm waiting for some smart Muslim to set up an independent state. If I was Juliar I'd short circuit any such action and offer them a large tract of land around Maralinga....

And he pulled it off becuase of the stupidity of the Government and lack of attention to detail that causes to this day so much strife with poorly written contracts  and mal administration.

There should be more of it. Susceeding that is!

Thanks for the feedback on the Kalbarri Road Barb, we went in and out on the mostly bitumen end from Binnu.

We did get to meet Shirley when she came to greet us in her pink fluffy slippers, she had told us the story, but when Leonard turned up he insisted he told us the story himself saying she probably missed a few things (she hadn't, lol ).

A Rhodes scholar is our Prince Leonard (and a WW2 veteran) and beat the government at their own game when they tried to screw him.....

As an aircrew member in WW2 he flew bombing missions on the Japanese in Borneo and took part in the surrender of Japanese forces in Borneo.

Have a read of this link OM, it shows what an intelligent and accomplished man Prince Leonard is;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Principality_of_Hutt_River

I my humble opinion he is an Australian treasure and legend!  Long Live Prince Leonard! aww

At this time in our political history I wonder how many others want to join Prince Leonard?  and what is the loophole he uses to not pay tax?

Yes Weevil, The gravel road from the Kalbarri end is all good gravel road as we travelled it last week.

Prince Leonard is lovely - unfortunately we didn't get to see Princess Shirley.

.....Leschenaultia (blue ones) there is also a red variety and the wreath flower is a variety too, see;

http://www.infobarrel.com/Wildflowers_of_Western_Australia_-_The_Leschenaultia

If anyone forgets or isn't carrying their passport they can get a visa instead at Hutt River or at the info centre at Northampton.

Best road in and out is from Binnu (mostly bitumen to Hutt River except for excellent gravel road for last 14kms), the road in from the Kalbarri coast road is all gravel, but ok I think.

At Moora now will head to Northhampton then Denham where the only place that could fit us in was the Shark Bay CP.

Tried the Monkey Mia resort and they offered to allow us to park our van and use one of their villas at $340 night so we wont bother, the Dolphins come in all day apparently as they used to have set feeding times but the Dolphins worked out that if they went 100metres down the beach they could beg scraps from anyone so now you buy a day entry ticket....

Denham Tourist were not able to help us becuase "Your Van is too long".. Cest La Vie...

Cheap Cp at Northampton, friendly managers, close to the road but still ok for overnight.

I your going to visit Hutt River Province, on the same main road as Northam (Coastal Hwy), turn off at Binnu, mostly bitumen to Hutt River last 14 kms good gravel road.  Can stay on powered site at Hutt River if available, very cheap, plenty of unpowered sites there.

Prince Leonard and Princess Shirley are legends and are really an independent country that doesn't pay taxes (for good reason though).

If you are continuing onto Denham, return the same way to the highway or if doing the Kalbarri loop can go direct from Hutt River to the coast but all gravel.   You could do the Kalbarri cliffs and coastal loop on the way back if you wanted to.

The Denham Tourist Bureau can advise on cheaper rates in the area if you give them a ring, I think Yeoeleven went through them and got an unpowered site at the Monkey Mia Resort with access to all facilities for $15 pp.  But you would need to check.

Yep, you are cutting up through the wildflower country from now on, hope the rain has bought plenty out, as about the reef flower at Tourist Info places on the way in.  I think Perinjori had them growing in their cemetery last time I was there, they like disturbed soil like gravel road verges etc.

Yep on Monday we head for Moora and hopefully see the first of the wildflowers then on to Northhampton then on Friday we should get to Denman or Monkey Mia. In negotiations with Monkey Mia resort as to a "sensible" fee for a powered site for 5 nights other wise we will stay at Denman and Hamlin Pool CP ( near the old telegraph station) I wish to interview a stromatalite for my blog.....

The Military Museum at Nungarin, 40 kms North of Merredin is well worth a visit too it was the biggest Ordnance Depot in WA during WW2.

Has a small caravan park there, but we have never stayed there.

Which way are you headed now?  Are you turning up through the middle towards Moora?

If so you could go through Nungarin or stay there.   Some nice and cheap parks in that area generally going northwards (depending on route) are Mukinbudin (mens shed there too), Goomalling and Wongan Hills, to name a few.

Yeah ok..... I'll try but the highlight of Kal is a tour of the brothels @ $18 a head so for females its $18; for non nutered males its $36. What is even more disturbing is that the Madame in Charge has the same name as my shrink.....

Hay st looks very subdued compared with the nightlife in Fyshwick, and the miners have their own "prefered" premises.... None the less all the girls seem to have asiatic faces, just like Vung Tau....

Day 2 Coolamon – Balranald.

A very dramatic moment this morning when I couldn’t find my socks, bought especially for the trip; I knew I packed them but couldn’t find them, probably because I packed them a month or so ago. Eventually they turned up in a basket that was on top of Carol’s intimate apparel. The sigh of relief must have been heard throughout the caravan park………

We stopped an hour west of Coolamon to dispose of our fruit; actually Carol made some tomato sandwiches with ham and cheese which she toasted for dinner…….

Stopped for luncheon at the Shearers Hall of Fame at Hay for a lamb burger; certainly glad I found my socks, woollen socks there were $13 a pair and a wash and wear woollen suit was only $595….. But not a solitary sheep in sight though and Gracie would have like to watch a dog working them. She is terrified of sheep, she met one on a leash in Young a couple of years ago…..

Vast tracts of land some as big as some small European countries had just had a cotton crop harvested, looked like snow. Massive cylindrical bales that fit 5 to a truck or 10 to a bi double and manage to disperse most of it enroute to wherever they were taking it.

Stopping overnight at Balranald River side Van Park $28 a night. The Murrumbidgee is running a banker but has dropped a foot or so. I’m feeling really really old, I remember the original lift bridge lifting.

On to Cadell tomorrow, a longish drive around 400km. We may stop enroute for a few pieces of fruit that we would eat before we have to empty all or fresh produce out at Border Village, though Carol has come up with a fiendish plan to cook and mash the potato….

Ok, so I only have to get rid of the last bit of garbage, take Hyacinth to the GP, pick up her INR machine and, and,..... Carols Aunt has had a dummy spit, fell asleep in a chair and fell off it, in Taree but we are letting the system deal with it, if we go up the system assumes that we are going to look after her so promptly put her in our care. Not this time, she is in a very nice private hospital, she wont cooperate with anyone or help herself so unless there is a real need we are going and she can be looked after by those who are being paid to do the job.....

Oh where was I? Just waiting for Hyacinth and one last task, turn of the computer.....

Updates from onthe road.....

I camped in my camp bed under awning at the front of the Nullarbor R/house a few weeks ago, by the oversize I was escoring. I watched the resident dingo wandering about at tea time, and she headed east.
I know it's a female because a few months ago I saw her, big and fat, on the western side of the r/house and mentioned it to the staff. They were "pleased" to hear she had returned. Apparently she'd gone bush, maybe to have pups or whatever dingo babies are called.
Anyway, when I went to bed I put my shoes where I hoped she wouldn't get the scent should she come sniffing around my camp during the night.
There are signs around not to feed the dingoes, but we know what signs mean to some people.
Just an aside, I saw a bustard or bush turkey standing looking stupid somewhere east of the Madura Pass. While the book says they can be reside there, the truck drivers I spoke to had never seen one there. I have only seen heaps of them in the Kimberley region.
So watch out. You never know when you'll come across some bustard.

Well Weev there are some totally irresponsible dog owners out there..... Unfortunatley the majority of them seem to be "mature" people without a clue....

Then of course different races have different ideas, a while ago Gracie and I were having a meal at Bones in Fivedock. Its all high density housing there now and most of the dogs were smaller breeds...... An Asian woman saw Gracie and wanted to buy her, offered big $$$$$$$, I refused she got really upset and said "why you bring dog if no sell" I said sorry try the girl with the beagle that would fit on your BBQ easier.....

Oooops......sorry about getting the name wrong, apologies to Gracie !

I saw these dingo's eyeing off a couple of those little lap dogs a couple had running around their caravans, and this stupid woman in another caravan throwing food to the dingo's.

I'll bet the dingo's would have enjoyed making off with one of those for a snack.  The owners seemed oblivious to the danger for their pet.

We are on our way. Gracie has been trained to obey some interesting commands like "foot" where she will show you her foot this is so vets can take blood without having to wrestle her to the ground and she also can do no. 1's on command, handy at night when she gets put out to go.... BUT she also knows the command "LEAVE IT", never approaches anyone unless they speak to her first. I'm worried about dingo's comming off second best, Gracie is no Azaria.... But I can't imagine the paperwork if she attacked and killed a dingo.....

Watch Rosey? coming across the Nullabor and elswhere, dog baits and dingoes (they hang around the Nullabor Road House and Caravavan park).

Best get Rosey a muzzle to prevent her picking up a bait at rest stops etc.
